Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York
My home I am renting was foreclosed and has new owners. The new owner came and changed locks while I was not home. We went to court the judge told him that was an illegal lockout and to restore possession when then made a cash for keys arrangement with them giving me cash if I leave by June 8, I left out of town on the 19th and they came and changed locks again on May 21. I have been out the home from then to now and they want to resolve the case outside the court and is willing to give me the cash for keys I agreed upon and they want me to make an offer of compensation for the time I was out of the home from the 21st of May until today. They stated they do not want to go back to court and the locks and things are already changed so it would be easier for us to settle. What would be a reasonable compensation request, just an opinion because I know it's based on individual hardship but I want this done with but don't want them to totally getting away to prevent it from happening to someone else in the future.
