Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York
My husband was a resident manager in a luxury rental building in Manhattan. On October 22 he was terminated from his job and asked to leave the apartment in 7 days after we lived their for almost 5 years. We never paid rent for the apartment since it was registered with the City of NY as super's apartment and they got a tax exempt status for this dwelling. We were not able to move out in 7 days and now have to go to court on November 30 for eviction proceedings. We are moving out on November 28 but they are saying we owe them $5,000 in rent from October 30-November 30. is this legal to do this.
Thanks, Rose O'Connor
