Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York
Illegal Apartments
If I am renting an apartment without a permit, and the tenant gets injured in the apartment, does the tenant have the right to sue me, since the apartment has no permit? If so, how much can I be sued for? What about if I put in the contract that the tenant is responsible for getting his/her own insurance?

Depending on the nature of the injury you could face substantial liability, as well as potential fines and possible criminal charges.
