Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

illegal conversion

I'm the legal tenant with a lease. My landlord converted his 2 family house into an illegal rooming house. He's been cited for violation. Can I now get evicted at the end of my lease agreement? The landlord is looking to get rid of me so he can then convert my apartment to room. I've heard that in NYC he doesn't have the right to evict me but I'm not sure. I've been a good tenant that pays rent on time every month so I know that's the only reason he would want me to move.

Re: illegal conversion

As a tenant in NYC you have substantial rights and protections. Contact the housing court in your county for assistance, call the Metropolitan Council on Housing or check the web for "legal service agencies" in your county for further help.
