Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

Land lord tenant

I got served with a petition for nonpayment from my landlord. The landlord herself served the papers with a ''witness''. I am thinking about contesting service. Was service done properly? Does the landlord have to give some sort of evidence to the court regarding service. Please help!!

Re: Land lord tenant

A party to an action cannot serve papers. Papers must be served by an individual, over 18 years of age, that is not a party to the litigation.
