landlord tennant dispute

i live in a condo and my landlord says it is against the law to have a sattelite dish.

It is not against the law. However, if the lease restricts the use of a satellite dish you must follow the lease otherwise the landlord has grounds for eviction. See, 2682 Kingsbridge Associates, LLC v. Martinez, 4 Misc.3d 111, 782 N.Y.S.2d 496 (2004).
