Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

landlord's insurance convering damage of fire

My uncle's house burnt down. He (wife and kids) were renting and did not have renter's insurance. What is their recourse against the landlord and his insurance policy even if it might not have been the landlord's fault?

Is it likely (or typical) that landlord's insurance will conver the renters?

the house was located in Queens, NYC

Re: landlord's insurance convering damage of fire

If it was not the landlord's fault there is no recourse. That is the purpose of renter's insurance.
