Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York
I've lived in an illegal apartment for 12 years with child and his father, and was just left by father of child, i applied for public assistance/child support and am working also, i told landlord i was leaving in summer after son finished school here and i sold my stuff and saved some money to leave to another state,he wont sign papers and says he wants me to leave now, i said no, i have no where to go and it would cause me a lot of problems, What can I do, and if he can get me out what can i do so he gets in trouble in some way for being a heartless person. Not to mention he's a family member.

The landlord can not force you to move out immediately. I could get you 8 months to vacate the premises as long as you continue to pay the back rent and future rent as it becomes due.
If you do not have the rent to pay, I could still get you 3 months rent free without paying any rent before you would have to vacate the premises.
