Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

I am currently living in my deceased grandmother's rent stabilized apartment. My father (her son) is listed as next of kin but is not in the apartment. I understand that I have to prove that I have succession rights and will need to appear in court. Because my dad is next of kin, will he need to appear in court? The landlord is pressuring him to surrender the apartment although he is not on the lease.

If you can prove you lived in the apartment for two years you are entitled to succession rights pursuant to the Rent Stabilization Law. Even if you can not prove succession rights, I can get you until the end of the year to vacate the apartment.
