Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

A long term tenant pays his October rent and then notifies me on 10/3 that he is moving by 10/10. When he signed his lease he agreed to provide a 30 written notice or forfeit his security deposit. Since he was a long term tenant I refunded his security deposit in full. He is now requesting that the portion of his October rent for which he did not occupy the apartment be refunded. I informed him that his rent was paid on a monthly basis for the month and that a refund for a protion of Ocotber's rent is not due him.

Am I correct?
