Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York
Is there some L&T provision that gives a tenant rent controlled status or rent stabilized status if they have been a tenant in a building for >10 (>20) (>25) years? I'm looking at buying a building in Williamsburg Brooklyn that has tenants with no written (month-to-month) leases but they may be long-term tenants.
I will need representation on the purchase as well as the eviction proceedings.

There is no provision giving a tenant rent controlled status or rent stabilized status if they have been a tenant in a building for >10 (>20) (>25) years. Nevertheless, the building may still be rent controled. You may inquire about the status of the building with the NYC Department of Buildings.
