Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York
I moved into an upper east side apartment two months ago. After the second week the building discovered a gas leak in the building and con Edison shut off the gas to the entire building. Management responded by distributing hot plates to each tenant. I still pay my rent in full and have not been able to use the stove. Management has not given a time estimate and has said that they will need to replace the old pipes which could take months. Should they give tenants a rent discount?

This is worth 50% off on the rent. You and your fellow tenants need to do a rent strike or this landlord will not do right by you.
