If a person does not live in a place but has possessions in that place do you have to get a letter from a lawyer to get it out or can a letter be sent to tell them to remove their stuff?

I would think that you would be able to send a certified letter asking the individuals to remove their possessions. The letter would not have to come from a lawyer.
