Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York
Potential Landlord wont rent to us
We are looking to rent a house and the landlord is looking for a reason to not accept our application. We are professionals, lots of money and looking to rent for 6 months while our new $400,000 home is built.
The landlord has a nice duplex with no tenants in either one. He requested our social security numbers from both my wife and I. We refues to give the SS #'s based on many reasons, one beingg the amount of money that we have and the extent of potential damange if the SS #'s get out and there is fraud, etc.
Is there any law requireming the landlord to be fair with letting us rent from him?

The landlord must act legally. He can ask for your social security number, you have a right to refuse to provide, and he has the right to decide to rent to someone more cooperative with his terms.
