Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

We rented an illegal apartment and was found out and have given the tentate back $3,350 out of the $3,900 she gave us and now we just got a call from the cops to come down for questioning. The cop wouldn't tell us over the phone why he wanted us to come down. Just to come down, is it a trick to arrest us or just to talk because then tentate to landlord thing seems civil court matter rather then criminal.

Landlord/Tenant matters are civil matters. I doubt the cops would trick you to go to the precinct to arrest you, they could easily do so at your home.
