Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York
I have been residing in my brooklyn NY apartment for over a year. My lease has ended at the end of april. During that time my apartment building was bought and is managed by a different management company. I have since paid that new management company $2800 for may and june which they have accepted. Before my lease ended rent was $2800 a month. The landlord has recently sent a new lease agreement that is backdated for may, with an increase in rent of $200, which brings the rent to $3000 a month. Obviously they are trying to get me to pay back rent for the 2 months where they have already accepted my money and have me pay $3000 going forward. They say that I am in holdover lease and not month to month. I was under the impression that if they accept my money after lease ends it is automatically month to month. My question is can the evict me for not signing the lease that they have unfairly backdated due to their or the previous management companies error? and do I have room to negotiate to keep my rent at $2800 for a new lease since they have already accepted it twice?

Once they acceped rent you became a month to month tenant. You can make big bucks off these fools.
