Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

Hello my name is sally deonarine my land lord do not want to pay me back my security deposit the sum of $1100.00 i could not live out my security otherwise i was about to lose theother apartment please tell me what to do do not have money for a lawyer he is claim he knows nothing about that money he bougth the house 6 years ago from the first owner i rented that apartment 10 years he just came up to me and my husband about 2 months ago told us he need his house and we have to move out from then on is nagging everyday to move out asking us if we get an apartment telling us he need his house soon he even stop giving us our mail at 1 point in time please help us thank you.

You should start an action in the small claims court. During the small claims trial you should produce a canceled check or receipt demonstrating delivery of the security deposit. You should also have a copy of the lease (if in writing), and pictures demonstrating the condition of the apartment when you left.
