Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York
I have been scheduled to vacate my apartment by October 31st as the house has been sold and the landlord is harrassing me to leave. Hurricane Sandy has precluded this move as we have no power and can't safely move up and down the stairs. In addition, the apartment to which I am moving also has no power so there is no elevator service . Restoration of service is estimated to take one week to ten days. Are there legal remedies to stop my landlord from harrassing me. This has become very stressful for me. To further complicate this issue, I was in a car accident last month in which I suffered broken ribs and herniated discs and other injuries which left me debiliated for a while. This move has become very difficult for me and I need to stop this insensative individual from tormenting me any longer.

Unless the landlord has a writing removal he must start eviction proceeding to remove you.
If there is damage to your items because loss of power it may also be covered under your renters insurance.
