Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

Security Deposits

A tenant has been living in the same complex for 39 years. At the time she rented the unit, she paid a security deposit. There are 4 buildings each with 8 apartments. About 5 years ago, all 4 buildings were sold. The tenant asked the current management about her security deposit to which they replied they know nothing about her deposit and that they do not have any documents regarding her deposit. Who is responsible for the security deposit? Can she force the new owner to return her deposit if she decides to move?

Re: Security Deposits

The new owner assumes all liabilities for the building including security deposits.

Re: Security Deposits

The new owner is responsible for her security deposit. He then can go after old owner for reimbursement. Does she have proof that it was paid?
