Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York
Tenant is being Evicted from what turns out to be an illegal aprtment
What can I do ? I have 2 little children in school and have been notified by the landlord that the town has found out that apartment is an illegal one. I did not know this ? And they say the town is coming to kick me out ..Can this be true ? Do I have any course of action to take ?
How long do I have to look for an apartment until they lock/kick me out ?
Can I sue my landlord ?

Re: Tenant is being Evicted from what turns out to be an illegal aprtment
It is very unlikely that the town is coming to evict you. By law, The landlord must usually take special steps to initiate a proceeding to have you properly evicted. There is a chance he is claiming the city is involved in order to avoid taking you to court. This area of law is our specialty, however, we would need some more information before making a complete and proper determination. You are welcome to contact us for a free consultation.
