Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

Tenant-Tenant Problems

I have a problem with other tenants that rent from the same landlord but live in different buildings on the same property. It all started with them physically assaulting my daughter which has led to them verbally harrassing me. I have brought it up to the landlord some of the problems I have had with them...he said he would speak to the mother of the children but the problem continues...I have warned the kids with calling the police to filing a complaint with the police against them....Please help....I'm at my wits end on what to do about this...Thank you!

Re: Tenant-Tenant Problems

This is a difficult situation. While the landlord is not responsible for the actions of his tenants in this case, he may be responsible if he re-news their lease after learning of this behavior. I need to know more about the specific actions against your daughter to know if the police will help you. You are welcome to a consultation at no fee at my offices at 42 West 44th St, NY,NY. Please call for an appointment first (646) 591-5786.

Re: Tenant-Tenant Problems

A landlord has the obligation to protect the queit enjoyment of his tenants to live on his property. He has an olbigation to keep you free from harassment from other tenants and to promote a tranquil environment.

Document the incidents against you and your daughter. Let the landlord know that if he fails to act to protect you and your daughter you will call the police -- then follow through. Then the next time something happens, follow through. You may want to consider moving to protect your family.
