Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

Unsigned Lease

I need some advice of what procedure I should be taking as I have learned some bad news. In January I moved into an apartment with a roomate and due to financial difficulties I decided to move out. Coming to the conclussion with my roomate that someone would take my place in the apartment I stayed while another roomate was found. Its been two months since I moved out and I received a phone call from my ex-roomate explaining to me that her new roomate was moving out and that i had a problem because my name is still on the lease.

My name is printed on the top of the lease but I did not sign the lease the only person who signed that lease was my roomate because I was not present at the time, my question is, Do i have anything to worry about?

Re: Unsigned Lease

You may. But you may have defenses. Let's put it this way ,they can always sue you, whether or not they can win is another story, but you would still have to defend yourself.

Should you like to discuss this or any other legal matter, you can call my office to schedule an appointment for a consultation or in the alternative, I can be reached for on-phone low-cost legal consultation at 1-800-275-5336 x0233699.
