Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

Water

Does a landlord have to pay for the water bill? I live in a village, and our landlord makes us pay the water bill. Someone told me that unless we are paying taxes we shouldn't have to pay the water bill and that the landlord should cover the bill.

Re: Water

Landlords usually cover the water bill (and pass the cost along as part of rent) but there is no law requiring landlords to cover the water bill.

Should you like to discuss this or any other legal matter, you can call my office to schedule an appointment for a consultation or in the alternative, I can be reached for on-phone low-cost legal consultation at 1-800-275-5336 x0233699.

Re: Water

This is something controlled by the lease you signed. If there is no written lease, it is likely you would have no obligation to pay the water bill.
