Legal Question in Legal Ethics in New York
Lawyer Ethical Standards
I emailed a lawyer who represents my mother, sister, and brother that he would do well to protect my mother's interests and review what has become of her spending since my sister took my mother into her house. Spending has averaged 10 grand per month as my sister is enjoying the high life thanks to my mother's credit card (another sister has POA and has tracked spending).
Minimally, I would like to file a complaint, if not file criminal charges.
Does a lawyer not have the legal obligation to protect his client's interest when said client suffers from Alzheimer's and is being financially abused?
This lawyer is very aware of the money grab by my brother and sister.
Fortunately, I have two other sisters who are decent people and want to set things right. Can we file criminal charges?
Thank you in advance for your answer(s).

Why don't you apply to the court to be her conservator? That should resolve the financial issues. Then, on behalf of your mother, you could pay your sister for her care and room and board.
