Legal Question in Legal Ethics in New York
Legal research
Attention:
I have a very basic question: I am interested in working for lawyers doing legal research either on a permanent full-time or contractual basis. I have a B.A. in Political Science and a Master's degree in Library and Information Science. However, I do not have any legal experience or training. Do I need additional training such as becoming certifified as a paralegal? Or, can I try to obtain such a position with the degrees that I have?

Re: Legal research
Neither degree by itself would seem to qualify you for (1) mastery of the vocabulary of the law, and (2) legal research, both of which are mandatory for a legal assistant.
Obviously a certified paralegal has an advantage when applying for such jobs.
