Legal Question in Legal Ethics in New York

I work for a privately owned (non-publicly traded) business. I suspected my manager and other workers of embezzling from the company, and went to the police. Once I made it clear to my manager that I wouldn�t drop the charges, he twisted my arm and pushed me against the desk. My manager was convicted of assault and battery after this attack, but I was fired soon afterwards. Claiming this was retaliation for launching the embezzling investigation do I have a good case, and under which act. Many things I find are for public companies, not private
