Legal Question in Legal Malpractice in New York
if a lawyer receives an legal admonishment from the ethics dept. can that client sue for legal malpractice

It depends.
The admonishment suggests misconduct. But the test for malpractice is more complicated.
The question in a malpractice case is whether the attorney failed to meet a standard of care or standard of conduct that is recognized by a profession and when that failure caused injury or damage to a client.
