Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in New York
liver fracture after stent placement
Do I have a case? In Sept of 2005, what started as a stomach ache soon became a nightmare... to make a long story short.. i was rushed to the hospital where i was told i had a 6 inch blood clot in my portal vein and superior mesenteric vein. i have no history of clotting disorders. i was 23 y/o at the time and the doc recommended that i have a rare procedure done (TIPS stent).. the stent and clot busters opened up only 30% of my clot and a week later, after my complaints of stomach pain and diaphoresis were ignored by the LPN and RN, it was found (after i collapsed) that my liver had fractured because of the stent they had placed. I was given blood transfusions (5 L of blood) and my vitals did not stabilize and i decompensated. I was rushed into emergency surgery in order to localize and stop the bleeding from the liver.. now, one year later, i have an 18 inch scar on my abdomen which is a constant reminder of the mistakes that were made. Please, any advice will help... I await the responses.
