Legal Question in Military Law in New York

Enlisting In The Military After A Divorce

I want to join the Marine Corp. I'm also on the verge of a divorce. My husband claims that the military will not allow me to enlist for at least 2 years after a divorce is final and that NY will not allow me to enlist ever if I've had a divorce. I just want to see if any of this is true. What are, if any, the military laws of future recruits who have a divorce. Thank you so much for your time!

Not completely true.

The issue that might come up is if you are a single parent who cannot come up with a "dependent care plan."

Re: Enlisting In The Military After A Divorce

Your husband is a blowhard who apparently feels the need to continue to exert control long after you are divorced. That, however, is the point of divorce. You can ignore this "Free advice" he offers you.

The military does not care if you are single, married or divorced. They treat you the same way. For men and women who have children, the military will insist that you have made arrangements to care for them so that you can fulfill your military duties. If you do not have children, this is not an issue. If you do have children, you may have to make certain choices, and a military career might not be worth it for you if you have to be deployed overseas and can't take your children with you.

To get the straight scoop (or as close to straight as possible) see a military recruiter.
