Military benefits after medical discharge

My son is starting the discharge process due to injuries to his hand by the base dr. an was told he should easily get 30 % disability. He can only squeeze 38 percent on the test, the looks of his hand he would not be hired to serve the public an this is his prodominal hand. What is the 30%? He clears close to 1,300.00 a month not an what other payments will he receive from the Gov. I was told he would still receive his salary, please give me some insight for my son. He is stationed in NY but will be coming back to Tn.

More likely than not, a person receiving a military medical retirement will only receive a portion of his/her salary. Its a formula based on time in the military, rank, and disability percentage. Anyone going through this process has every interest in making sure that they get the highest disability percentage that they are entitled to.
