Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York

assaulted in prison

I was assaulted in prison on april 3 2008 by 3 inmates and lost 90% of the vision in my right eye. The inmate who hit me with the weapon owns 14 chinese resturants and a realestate development company in washington DC. He has also been released. Do I have a case?
