Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York

bumper to bumper accident and the other party is suing me

I had a bumper to bumper accident. It was a slight bump.( I bumped into the car in front of my car in a stop and go traffic). I was driving a toyato corolla and the car in front of me was a mini van. My car had no damage at all. The other party is now suing me $1 million for personal injury. HE claimed that his neck was injured in the accident. However, I don't think it was true. Now, the insurance company is handlingit right now. I would like to know what is the procedure in this kind of case and do I need a lawyer ? If I do need one but not able to afford it, where can I find some affordable legal advice ?

I hope you were insured. If so, your insurance should defend you. If not you will have to hire an attorney, which will be expensive.
