Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York

Can a case be settled faster?

I was hit by a drunk driver 6 months ago. This resulted in a back surgery. I am still out of work and still doing physical therapy. What steps can be taken to make my lawyer settle faster? I understand they need to know the extent of my injuries but I don't want and can't afford to let this drag on for years.

Re: Can a case be settled faster?

I will give you a piece of unsolicited advice. Let your lawyer handle the case. These type of cases take time and in order to get just compensation you have to be prepared to go to trial which can take years. (That doesn't mean the case will actually be tried, but you need to be prepared for the possibility).

If the defense attorneys and insurance companies know you are anxious to settle you will not get anything close to value for your injuries.

Should you like to discuss this or any other legal matter, you can e-mail me for more information about low cost face-to-face, on-line, or a telephone consultation with a lawyer in our office.
