Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York
To whom it may concern,
I am a 17 year old high school student and i obtained my license a little over 6 months ago. Less then 2 days ago i was involved in an auto accident while driving my mothers car in which i am at fault. The women in front of me stopped short and i rear ended her. I am not currently on my mothers insurance plan and I would like to know how to solve this. my mothers insurance plan includes, liability, comprehensive and collision and covers other drivers who drive her car, are there any technicalities being that i am a minor? I wasn't breaking any laws by driving, and the women admits she slammed on the brakes because the man infront of her did the same. I am extremely worried about the consequences i could face.

As long as you were driving your mother's car with her permission, you should be afforded the protection of her liability insurance policy. You should immediately report this accident to her insurance carrier and get the claim number assigned. As long as you hold a valid drivers license, the fact that you are a minor should not be of any consequence. Hope this is helpful.
Your mom's insurance policy will cover you, provided you were driving with her permission. Do not delay reporting the accident to the insurance broker or carrier. Some insurance carriers provide 24 hours claims service. If yours does, call now. Otherwise, tomorrow AM. Have all information at the ready. Best, M. E. Zuller
