Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York

Should I fight a ticket for leaving the scene?

I accidentally hit a car at school parking lot. Really nervous just run away to class. Then cop found me and gave a ticket for left accident scene. I was planning to plea guilty but when I go the court, the clerk seems surprised and told me to plea not guilty. She said that if I plead guilty, I would get points off and my license may be suspended. If I plead guilty they sometimes just send people to traffic school instead of getting points off. I'm not sure what to do. What if I don't win; any additional penalty? I don't want to loss my license nor get in trouble.

If I plea guilty what I should say in court?

Do not plead guilty, as you can get jail time depending on the circumstances. Insist on a trial and give the judge a much better explanation why you ran away. You were obviously scared, so tell them. Also, your English is not the best, so you can try stating you were confused. Don't lie, but do a better job explaining. You really should have an attorney. Good luck!
