Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York

''Harassment'' US Mail, E-Mail and Phone Messages

Upon hearing about a relationship a former friend did not approve of, she went into a rage and began contacting me in a series of threatening and angry messages (via mail, e-mail and phone messages). She fabricated a story that indicated I had broken into her home and stolen from her, and to this day (more than 6 monthes since the incident) still sends me ''Just A Tip'' anonymous complaints. I have saved everything. I believe she is now sending me info, newspaper clippings etc. about losing weight. There is no return address, is there anything I can do?

I concur with Mr. Hanlon's message. I would also consider contacting the local police. They may be unwilling to get involved in such a situation, but if you "pester" them, they will more likely get involved.

There is a civil action for harrasment

You may recover both monetary damages,

and punitive damages

You may also seek an injunction in such

action

There is only a one year statute of limitation

so the time is running out

The biggest problem you have is proving that

he/she is sending the items. There is

some circumstantial evidence, but it still

does not tip the scales in either direction

More is needed.

Retain counsel who knows evidence and is willing

to discuss this
