Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York

Libel or defamation of Character

An individual has used personal information about me on a website (she set up a ''blog'') and used it to libel me (and others). She didn't use my name (but used my relationship to someone else and posted enough information about me so that I could be identified). The offensive portion of the website's been taken down, but she continues to harass and defame me with e-mails, web postings (on the internet on messgaeboards) with false and malicious statements regarding past medical treatment, personal information about my past relationships (again, with false information), etc. Can I sue her for this?

Assuming the information posted was demonstrably false (not just opinion) and that you are truly identifiable a lawsuit is an option. I would be happy to talk to you about this if you'd like.

Should you like to discuss this or any other legal matter, you can call my office to schedule an appointment for a consultation or in the alternative, I can be reached for on-phone low-cost legal consultation at 1-800-275-5336 x0233699.

Indeed it is possible. It is important to save as much information as possible.

Did you print out the web pages before they were edited? Write down as many dates and times as yuo can remember with who told you what. It is easier to do this now than later.

Call me if you would like to consult on this, I have an office in Manhattan. 212-764-5428

Good Luck

Re: Libel or defamation of Character

If you can truly be identified by the information provided by the wrongdoer on Web sites and in e-mails, then you may have a basis for a lawsuit. The particular statements and the harm caused by them must be analyzed to determine if you will be successful and if a lawsuit would be worthwhile. As a starter, please review the article on our web site entitled "Libel and Slander" on the right hand listing. After doing so, if you wish to arrange for a consultation please feel free to contact us at (212) 267-7000.
