Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York
Non responsive lawyer
I was a passenger in a car accident. I have been compensated for my medical bills and time lost from work through workers comp. However, my other lawyer for pain & suffering has not finished my case. It's going onto7 years now and I feel he is stalling. Maybe he has cases that he feels are more important. What is the limit of time that he has to try my case. We are suing the drunk driver that hit us plus the limo car I was a passenger in. Iwant ot get this resolved and my lawyer is always telling me a few more months. Now going into almost 7 years I just want to get it over with.

To my knowledge, there is no limit to how long a case can last. However, seven years is extremely long for a motor vehicle case. There are occassional extenuating circumstances such as a bankruptcy-stay or a stay due to the death of a party. I would strongly advise you to make an appointment with a lawyer who should be able to find out the status of your case through on-line sources and, failing that, a phone call or letter.

It seems like a longer than usual amount of time to resolve a case. But every case is different. I would need more information to give you an answer as to why it is taking so long. Re: Non responsive lawyer
7 years is too long for an auto accident case. Especially where you were a passenger (no liability).
You are always entitled (by law) to change your attorney. Perhaps you should consider this.
