Personality Damage as a Personal Injury

Can the intentional severe actions of a defendant which have caused the damage in the form of alteration to the character and/or personality of the defendant be claimed as personal injury by the plaintiff. What kind or level of evidence is needed to prove (i.e., demonstrate) this?

Personal injury lawsuits require proof of physical harm, so you'd have to be able to show the damage on an MRI, brain scan, or some other objective means.
