Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York
Someone is pressing charges against me.
Last March I got into a car accident. There was a double parked car accross, so the driver from the right side made a wide turn to avoid the car. Another driver came from left and afraid of being hit by the car accross, he hit me.It came out that the car i was driving was not insured. (I had purchased the car I was driving and had temp registration, but my name was insured). Insurance company did not want to pay for the accident since it wasn't the car that's insured got into an accident.
The guy that hit me is pressing charges against me for $50000 or more.I recenly bought a house, is there a chance I might loose it.What should I do, and what kind of lawyer should I hire. Thank you.

It sounds likes someone is suing you in civil court for personal injuries. If there is no insurance coverage, you need to hire a lawyer who handles personal injury cases to defend you. The amount of money listed in the complain is not important. What matters is who was at fault and what the injuries are. You should try to find a personal injury lawyer in your area to handle the case. If you cannot find one, you can call my office at 212-622-7180.

From your description, it is the insurance company that is the real culprit here. You probably should hire an attorney to force the insurer to honor its policy. Most (but not all) auto policies cover the driver in any car he may be driving, even a rental car. Before things go much further, you should call us for an appointment. Call (212) 387-7787.
