Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York

Release of medical information

I am the plaintiff in a lawsuit regarding a breach of confidentiality of my medical records by a pharmacy assistant. I understand that I must sign an authorization to release my medical records but why must the release to my school and insurance carrier give permission to obtain my records with regard to cancer, HIV status, veneral disease? I feel as if my privacy is invaded again.

In such an action, confidentialy is a matter of degrees, so to speak. Perhaps the defense is attempting to see who knew what, and when.

Since you have an attorney, why not ask there. The lawyer should be in the best position to know, considering (s)he knows all the facts of the case.
