Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York

settlement

my sister-in-law was in her vehicle when hit. the case settled for 9000 a month and half ago. i asked the lawyer to provide a breakdown of payout. he has the check. now states that he can not find the doctor to find out the amount owed the doctor. any advise?

I would get your sister-in-law to provide a list of everywhere she was treated. I am sure if he tried really hard in can get in touch with them.

Ask your lawyer for the doctor's name and call him yourself to find out if there is an outstanding medical bill. Most of your sister's medical bills should have been paid by her no-fault insurance carrier, you can check with them also. Ask the lawyer to send you an explanation of this situation in writing, he may be just holding on to the funds for no legitimate reason.
