Settlements!

If the presiding Judge offers their decision as to a monetary settlement reward to an Injury Case, does the defense typically abide by the advice, or can they request mediation.

Typically in situations where the judge gives an opinion, he or she is doing just that, giving an opinion. Generally speaking the judge does this to attempt and foster settlement among the parties or give general advice. However, the defense can take this as just that, advice, and proceed to the extent they feel fit, until the time when the judge or jury renders a decision of course.
