Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York

slander/libel/threat?

the mother of my daughter's friend is threatening to tell my daughter's husband, away on a trip, that she has been sleeping around and accused her of having stds. this is not true. She filled up an email with untrue things about her and used profanity. These acussacions are not true.I have all saved up in writting. My question is whether there is a possible law suit case and assure that she will not contact my son in law.

Re: slander/libel/threat?

Her threats constitute aggravated harassment in NY. Until she actually publishes the threat (sends it to your friends husband) and until it has a detrimental effect, there is no suit for defamation. I would report the threats to the police and possibly to the postal inspectors as well.

Good Luck.

Re: slander/libel/threat?

If your daughter feels threatened, she can file a police report and/or go to Family Court and file for an Order of Protection.
