Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York
Squater suing llc
A squater has send us a letter with a $18000 medical bill(with our property address) stating that he was injured in our property in Albany. We had boarded this property two years ago.The property had no electric /gas. The property was under our LLC and had no insurance. The neighbourer of this property told us that some body had lived in our prperty for about three monthe last year.He got electric cord from the neighbourer by some false information. We never rented the property. However this squater had removed snow from our property in winter 2004 four times and was paid for that service. Are we personally responsible for her leg injury ? Should we pay something to him? The property may be worth $35000 and is the only asset of the LLC. If this case proceed how much it will cost us approximately so that we can decide to settle on some amount

Re: Squater suing llc
This is an unlucky situation but you will not have to pay anything to this person.
You write that you have no insurance. That means that you cannot rely on their lawyers but must find your own.
You will defend, and win, on the basis that you were not negligent. In the absence of any knowledge that this person was on the premises, you have no duty to him.
This is a simple matter and should not involve exorbitant attorney fees.
You are welcome to a consultation for no fee. Email is best to schedule an appointment.

Let him start a law suit, and inform your insurance company about the potential claim.
