Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York

statute of limitations to file civil lawsuit

I was assaulted by a woman who stabbed me in November 2005 she was arrested and that was the last I heard about it. Is it too late to sue for damages, as I have an ugly scar from the stabbing, and hospital bills I had to pay

Re: statute of limitations to file civil lawsuit

The statute of limitations is one year from the date of the stabing but it gets extended to one year from the end of the criminal prosecution if there was one. It could be extended further if there was a conviction, depending on the charge. I've done these cases before so feel free to contact me.

It very well may be too late, you should contact an attorney IMMEDIATELY to see if you may still qualify under the statute of limitation under some exceptions.

Feel free to contact my office at 212.709.8303 for a free phone consultation.
