Legal Question in Product Liability in New York
Hello I have a question. I brought my 1999 Nissan Altima into a Garage in Troy, NY to get inspected. I was told the car would have to be fixed and it would cost $491 for the inspection, parts, and the labor. I was then told the "Sub Frame" needed to be replaced and it would cost $300 for the part from a junk yard. I was told the part did not arrive on 9/9/13 like it should have and the car was sitting there with the engine out of it. The part arrived on 9/10/13 the car was then fixed and the total came to $942.20. The total was paid but then as i was driving the car four hours later the check engine light came on. Should I bring the car back to the garage since the light was not on before the car was fixed and inspected and demand that he fixed it because the light only came on after he had taken the engine out of the car and fixed it? I am going to take it to a parts store and get a reading on the light to see what the problems appears to be tomorrow. I was told that since the light came on after he had fixed the car and inspected it that it is his legal responsibility to fix it?

Take it back to garage as they did the full inspection. However, you may not get satisfaction from them. If not go to an independent mechanic and see if the first garage did anything harmful to the car during their many repairs. Then you might have a suit.
