Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

Abandoned Boat

I rented a guy (who I use to work with )a garage for storage of his boat. It was verbal, no lease was singned. He has not paid any rent for two years. I have not been able to reach him. He has never contacted me either. What do I do? Is the boat abandoned? How do I dispose of it.? How do I get ownership of it, so I can sell it and recover my lost rent?

Re: Abandoned Boat

The boat is not yet abandoned.

You must sue your former tenant for the

back rent. This will require that he

be sent notice of the proceedings.

Assuming he does not respond, you will

then get a judgment. This judgment can

be then used to "execute" against the boat

and you basically purchase the boat at

auction in satisfaction of your judgment.
