Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

Access to jointly-owned marital home

My friend has been divorced recently. She and her ex are in the process of selling their jointly-owned home in New York state. He wrote to her and said he is forbidding her to enter the home, that it is his home and that she needs to ask his permission to enter the home. There are no restraining orders, orders of protection etc. Can he restrict her from entering the house? Can you tell me where I might find something about this in writing?

Thank you.

Re: Access to jointly-owned marital home

If her name is on the deed also, then it equally belongs to her.

Take a sheriff along for added peace of mind if needed.

Good Luck
