Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York
Adverse possession?
There is a property that I have paid taxes on to avoid foreclosure. The owner is deceased with no blood heirs. Is there a way to do a bar claim action on the property in our to get title if I am currently using the property? No living Blood relatives exsist.. so how what can one do besides squatting for 7 years?

Re: Adverse possession?
Keep squatting, but don't expect to take title under adverse possession if someone else appears with some sort of claim on the property! The point of adverse possession is to allow those with claims on ownership to appear. Understand that you are paying the realty taxes out of the goodness of your heart, not because it will show that you own the property over anyone else with a claim. Check with a local lawyer to be sure. DOn't forget that one can never be sure that there are no relatives of teh deceased around.
